Each year we come together at our Annual Gala to celebrate our shared achievements as a Hospital and to honor notable members of our Downtown community. We thank many donors for their past participation and invite everyone to join in to support the Hospital’s 19th Annual Gala to be held on October 11 at Cipriani Wall Street. Proceeds will directly benefit our critical healthcare programs and services.

At the Gala, we will recognize Stavros Niarchos Foundation with our first Global Philanthropy Award. The Foundation is one of the world’s leading international philanthropic organizations, making grants in the areas of arts and culture, education, health and medicine, and social welfare. The Foundation funds organizations and projects that exhibit strong leadership and sound management and are expected to achieve a lasting and positive social impact.
Julie Menin, Chairperson of Manhattan Community Board 1 from 2005 to 2012, will be presented with the Community Service Award. As Chair, Ms. Menin advocated on behalf of numerous land use and zoning issues, spearheading a successful campaign to build new schools in her district, including New York's first "green" school. She has been dedicated to revitalizing Lower Manhattan post 9/11 and was instrumental in such issues as the relocation of the 9/11 terror trials. She has served on the Board of Trustees of New York Downtown Hospital since 2010 and has a demonstrated passion for making our community both healthier and more vital.
Eric Poon, M.D., our Chairman of Pediatrics and President of the Chinese Community Partnership for Health, will receive the Distinguished Physician Award for his compassionate care to generations of parents and children of our city for nearly 25 years. He specializes in pediatric cardiology and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Poon is consistently recognized among the best pediatricians by Castle Connolly and New York magazine and as a “Super Doctor” in The New York Times Magazine.
Heartfelt thanks to our physicians and supporters who have contributed to our Hospital galas since 1993.
