Flushing, N.Y. – August 31, 2010 – Baoqing Li, M.D., Ph.D., has joined the Department of Radiation Oncology at New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) as an attending physician. He is an expert in treating cancers of the head and neck, lung, and prostate.
He was recently recognized by the American Radium Society and the AmericanCollege of Radiology with two significant awards for his research on the prevention of the development of radiation-resistant prostate cancer cells. In addition, he has published several articles on head and neck malignancies and genitourinary malignancies in journals such as the Prostate, British Journal of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Head and Neck.
Dr. Li served as chief resident of radiation oncology at the University of California Davis, School of Medicine. However, Dr. Li is no stranger to the Flushing community. He completed his internship training at FlushingHospitalMedicalCenter, with an elective in medical oncology. Dr. Li achieved his degree in medicine at New YorkMedicalCollege.
Prior to obtaining his medical degree, Dr. Li earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. He also completed training as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at ColumbiaUniversity.
“I was born in China. It was always my intention that after my specialty training I would return to Flushing, because it has a large and growing Chinese population that is underserved in the area of cancer treatment,” said Dr. Li. “There needs to be more Chinese-speaking physicians serving this population.”
He chose New York Hospital Queens because of its reputation in treating cancer as well as its affiliation with WeillCornellMedicalCollege, where he has an academic appointment as an assistant professor.
