White Plains, NY – July 15, 2010 – White Plains Hospital congratulates staff nurse Jennifer Bello, BSN, RN, of White Plains, who recently spoke at the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) conference in Indianapolis in April after submitting an abstract on Maintaining Patient Safety Through Innovation: An Electronic SBAR Communication Tool.
Ms. Bello worked to create and implement the SBAR (Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation) technique at White Plains Hospital to maintain a standardized approach to hand off communication and enhance patient safety. The SBAR technique provides a framework for communication between members of the health care team about a patient's condition. SBAR is an easy-to-remember, concrete mechanism which allows for an easy and focused way to set expectations for what will be communicated, and how it will be communicated, between members of the team, which is essential for developing teamwork and furthering a culture of patient safety.
Ms. Bello graduated from SUNY Binghamton with a BS in 2003. She worked as a staff nurse at White Plains Hospital in the Medical Surgical Unit for 4 years and later was promoted to Assistant Nurse Manager in 2007. Ms. Bello was instrumental in the building of all assessment screens currently in use within the computerized system at White Plains Hospital.
