On April 30, 2010, New York Downtown Hospital conducted the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Lower Manhattan’s first publicly funded MRI. Acquisition of the MRI was made possible by the Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Sheldon Silver, through funding from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC).  Mr. Jeff Menkes, President and CEO, welcomed Speaker Silver; New York State Senator Daniel Squadron; Mr. Avi Schick, Chairman of the LMDC; Mr. David Emil, President of the LMDC; and Ms. Julie Menin, the Chair of Community Board 1 and one of six members of the LMDC Board who reviewed the Hospital’s application.  Robert Min, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Radiology at New York Downtown Hospital and Radiologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, addressed our distinguished guests.

One week earlier, the Hospital hosted physicians from the community, who were invited to tour the MRI Suite and to familiarize themselves with the variety of quality diagnostic services available at our Hospital. The Hospital is grateful to Mr. Joe Cianci, Director of Radiology, and his team for their assistance with these two events. This advanced technology will provide briefer examinations with greater comfort for our patients and higher diagnostic confidence for our physicians.
