Robert Seminara, M.D., (photo right) former president of NYM’s Medical Board, and Fredric J. Hugue, who has served as a Hospital trustee since 2003, will be honored at New York Methodist Hospital’s annual Board of Trustees “Candlelight Gala,” on Saturday, May 1, 2010.The event will be held at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.   Proceeds from the gala will benefit the Hospital’s Department of Surgery.  

 

Dr. Seminara will receive the Lewis S. Pilcher Award in recognition of his leadership and service to the Hospital. The award is named after New York Methodist’s first medical director. Dr. Seminara received a bachelor’s of science degree in biology from Long Island University in 1973.  After receiving a medical degree in 1977, he completed a year of rotating clerkship at New York Medical College.  He then began a general surgery residency at what was then known as The Methodist Hospital and served as chief resident under the tutelage of the late Irving Enquist, M.D.

During his years as an attending surgeon at New York Methodist, Dr. Seminara has served on many Hospital committees and has been steadfast in his ambition to champion physician and patient satisfaction. He served as the president of the Hospital’s Medical Board for two years, from 2007 to 2009, and continues to serves as chairman of the Medical Board’s Utilization Review Committee. Dr. Seminara and his wife Diane, a registered nurse, have three children. 

 

Fredric J. Hugue will receive the James Monroe Buckley Award for Distinguished Trustee in recognition of his dedication as a member of the Hospital’s Board of Trustees. This award memorializes the Methodist minister who conceived the idea of founding the first Methodist Hospital, 129 years ago.

 

Mr. Hugue is a senior vice president and regional credit officer for Sovereign Bank in New York. In addition to his service on the Hospital’s Board of Trustees, he is also deeply involved in many other public service and community activities in the metropolitan area. He is a board member of the New York City Industries for the Blind, Inc., Poets House and the Boy Scouts of America-Brooklyn Council. He is also a board member and treasurer of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the Brooklyn Alliance.  Over the years, he has received numerous community service awards and commendations.

 

Mr. Hugue received a bachelor’s degree in history from Villanova University and holds an MBA in Finance from Fordham University. He and his wife, Karen, reside in Brooklyn Heights and are the proud parents of one daughter, Anne, age 19.

 

The “Candlelight Gala” will begin with a cocktail hour at 7 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 8 p.m. After the award ceremony, guests will be treated to a special performance by The Redd Band.
