Over 160 Doctors Attend NYCPM's Two-Day Symposium on the Geriatric Foot and Ankle

New York,  NY – February 1, 2010 – The New York College of Podiatric Medicine recently presented a resoundingly successful Symposium on the Geriatric Foot and Ankle, capping a year of outstanding Continuing Medical Education programs. 

 

 The symposium, held at Weill Cornell Medical College, was attended by more than 160 doctors, and featured twenty outstanding speakers from around the country, representing both podiatric and allopathic medicine, as well as academic research.  Keynote speakers included Cynthia Magro, MD, PhD, from Weill Cornell Medical College, who spoke on Dermatopathology for the DPM, and Mark Young, MD, from Johns Hopkins, who spoke on Pain Syndrome.  Other lectures relating to the ever-expanding field of geriatric medicine focused on podiatric surgery, dermatology, vascular surgery, orthopedics/biomechanics, wound care and radiology.

The General Chairman of the symposium was Robert A. Eckles, DPM, Associate Professor of Orthopedic Sciences and Dean of Clinical Studies and Graduate Medical Education at NYCPM.  The Scientific Co-Chairs were Michael J. Trepal, DPM, Vice President for Academic Affairs & Dean, and Professor, Department of Surgical Sciences; Anthony Iorio, DPM, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Community Health and Medicine, and Assistant Dean for Continuing Medical Education; and Rock G. Positano, DPM, Director of the Non-Surgical Foot and Ankle Service at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery, and Director of the Foot Center, Sports Medicine section, at the Orthopedic Trauma Service, New York-Presbyterian/Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

 

In addition to the lecturers, Louis L. Levine, NYCPM President and CEO, spoke about the many advances the College has made in recent years, both in the academic sphere and in the almost-total modernization and upgrading of its facilities.  Both Mr. Levine and Howard Rusk, Jr., NYCPM Director of Alumni Relations, also spoke about the upcoming Centennial Celebration the College is planning for 2011, including an Academic Convocation and Dinner on May 18, 2011.
