Bayside, NY– January 4, 2010 - St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children announced a $10,000 grant from the NYMEX Foundation to support St. Mary’s Vehicular Access to Neighborhoods (V.A.N.) Program, a mobile healthcare program designed to bring specialized medical and rehabilitative care into the homes of children with special needs, including those in difficult-to-serve neighborhoods throughout the New York Metropolitan area.
Sponsored by Mitchell Steinhause, former Chairman of the Board of the New York Mercantile Exchange – now a CME Group company, and championed by Madeline Boyd, President of the NYMEX Foundation, the grant brings St. Mary’s vital work into the communities it serves by delivering teams of healthcare experts to provide state-of-the-art care for children and families in the comfort of their own homes. The V.A.N. Program supports St. Mary’s Early Intervention program for children suspected of having developmental delays from birth to 3 years of age, and also provides healthcare services for children in underserved neighborhoods who might not otherwise have access to care, including New York City’s largest pediatric HIV/AIDS home care program.

“The NYMEX Foundation is thrilled to continue our longstanding partnership with St. Mary’s, helping children make remarkable recoveries and achieve a higher quality of life,” said Madeline Boyd.
“We are so grateful to our friends on the NYMEX Foundation Board and Grant Review Committee for this generous gift as well as their ongoing support of St. Mary’s unique programs and services for children,” remarked Eileen Weiss, Director of Development. “Together, we are making a difference in the lives of thousands of children each and every day.”
