New York Methodist's Center for Allied Health Education Hosts Graduation Ceremonies for its Bartone School of Radiography and School of Radiation Therapy

Brooklyn, NY – September 2, 2009 – Hospital faculty, family, and friends recently gathered together to recognize the accomplishments of New York Methodist Hospital’s (NYM) Bartone School of Radiography and School of Radiation Therapy’s graduating classes. Both graduation ceremonies marked the completion of the Schools’ rigorous, full-time, two-year programs. The two schools are both housed in the Hospital’s Center for Allied Health Education.

 

This year’s Bartone School of Radiography class, comprised of 38 students was the largest in the school’s history. “Use this as a stepping stone to further not only your career, but also your education,” said Anthony Mungo, administrative director of radiology at NYM, as he addressed the graduates. “The field of radiology is filled with endless opportunities.”

Several graduates were recognized at the ceremony for their exceptional academic achievement. Graziella Ciocia of was named valedictorian. Her classmate, Aviva Weiss of was named salutatorian. The Coviden/Edward Mallinckrodt Award for Clinical Excellence was presented to Marilu Uribe of  John Bryant Quiroz of  and Stuart Berenson of  received the Philips Medical Systems Award for Clinical Excellence.  The Bracco Pharmaceuticals Award for Clinical Excellence was given to Wendy W. Hau of  and Jennifer D. Salesi of received the Vincent Marotta Award for embodying the best qualities of integrity and honesty in health care.

 

Other members of the graduating class of 2009 included, Lindsay Batiato, Klaudia Bey, Robert Bursic, Dorian Castra, Roseanne Chirico, Jason Cohen, Natalie E. Corado, Michael D’Agosta, Susan Deineka, Nick Dimino, Joseph M. Espinal, Akshanna Hendrix, Jessica Leverock, Monique Mansoura, Meredith McEntee, George Menacho, Kirk Michel, Josephine Mitolo, Vanessa Monachino, Albert Nisenbaum, Ashley Pascocello, Yolanda K. Perez, Leonardo Portuesi, Linda Romeo, Jason P. Scully, Patrick Small, Olga Smelianskaia, Laura F. Sposito, Anthony D. Torress and Bozena Wojno.

 

Founded in 1964 by then director of radiology, Noel Bartone, M.D., the Bartone School of Radiography is recognized as one of the finest radiography schools in the nation.   Many graduates have used the skills learned at NYM’s Bartone School of Radiography to build careers in advanced areas such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning, ultrasound, nuclear medicine or to branch out into related fields, such as radiologic education and radiologic administration. 

 

At the School of Radiation Therapy’s ceremony, nine graduates were honored with heartfelt speeches and plenty of praise for their completion of the School’s grueling program. “Your education has not ended today, it has just begun,” said Jerry Rozenburg, director of New York Methodist’s Center for Allied Health Education, as he addresses the graduates. I implore you to seek out new learning experiences throughout your career.”

 

In addition, several of the graduates received special recognition for their outstanding achievements. Joseph Samson of was named valedictorian.  The Clinical Excellence Award and the Sameer N. Rafla-Demetrious Award were presented to Shabana Patel. Horace C. Allen, Jr., received the Humanitarian Award for Patient Care. Other graduates of the 2009 class were, Michael Atala, Adriana A. Borges, Pietro Di Maria, Eugene Karasyunok, Jonathan Paul Ortiz, Evie Marie Rodriquez, Jorge L. Rodriquez, and Kenneth O. Snapp III.

 

The NYM School of Radiation Therapy is a two-year certificate program that entails classroom instruction, laboratory sessions, and a strong clinical component. Students also receive a thorough foundation in theory. The program’s goal is to graduate well-trained individuals who pass the registry examination and gain employment as radiation therapists and can perform the tasks of a radiation therapist in a competent manner.

New York Methodist Hospital
