Mineola, NY – August 4, 2009 - To many professionals, the most telling sign of success is the respect of their professional colleagues. It was this ultimate honor that was bestowed upon Frank A. Monteleone, MD, Chief of the Division of Breast Services at Winthrop-University Hospital, when the hospital’s Medical Staff Organization recognized him with the Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual Spring Dinner Dance.
Dr. Monteleone began his professional life at Winthrop-University Hospital, then known as Nassau Hospital, as a young surgical resident more than 30 years ago. Eager and committed to learning and doing his best for his patients, he chose to remain at the Hospital, where he has become a highly respected surgeon, valued colleague and medical educator.
Dr. Monteleone served as president of the Resident House Staff early in his career, and has brought wisdom, insight and leadership to positions on the Hospital’s Board of Directors, the Operating Room Committee and Surgical Review Committee, and the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff. In addition, he is a past-President of Winthrop's Medical Staff Organization, a member of Winthrop’s Cancer Committee and head of its Breast Tumor Board. In 2008, he was named Chief of the Division of Breast Services at Winthrop.
Dr. Monteleone is certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the International College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. His many professional memberships include the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons; American Medical Association and New York State Medical Society and he is widely published in respected medical journals. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and has actively participated in the education and training of countless medical students and residents.
Born in Italy, Dr. Monteleone completed his undergraduate education at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, and upon graduation, attended the Medical School of the University of Padua in Italy. Dr. Monteleone and his wife, Rosemary, reside in Glen Head, NY and are the parents of three adult children, Andrew, Grace, and Marie.
The Medical Staff Organization and Winthrop’s administration are proud to have this truly remarkable physician and friend on the Winthrop team.
