New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) recently partnered with Clean Air NY, an initiative sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation, to encourage New York downstate region residents to make simple changes in their everyday travel choices. In support of region-wide air quality efforts, the week of June 15th was declared “Commit to Cleaner Air’ Week.

On Tuesday, June 16th, representatives from the organization, along with Clean Air NY’s cloud mascot, visited New York Methodist Hospital to educate employees and visitors about the many different ways to reduce vehicle miles traveled by encouraging the use of mass transit, combining trips, carpooling, bicycling and walking. The mascot also visited the Hospital’s outpatient pediatric clinic, passing out coloring books and posing for photos with children while they waited for their appointments.

In support of cleaner air, New York Methodist offers its 3000-plus employees a pre-tax benefit transit plan to help defray their commuting costs and make use of environmentally friendly transportation alternatives. In addition, bicycle racks, carpooling and ride match options—as well as free shuttle rides to parking garages—are available to employees.
