Flushing, NY – March 30, 2009 – New York Hospital Queens was recently recognized as the borough’s only hospital to be named a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” by the American College of Radiology after a rigorous review process to ensure compliance with nationally accepted standards.
“This is a wonderful distinction and recognition not only for the staff here in radiology, but for our patients here in Queens who can rest assured they are being cared for by physicians and referring physicians who are recognized among their peers as experts in the field,” said Lai Ming Yu, M.D., director of the Women’s Imaging Center.
According to the ACR, a facility receives the distinction "Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” after it demonstrates excellence in breast imaging by successfully achieving accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. The Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging performed the ACR review.
Board-certified physicians and medical physicists considered experts in the field determined that New York Hospital Queens has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
“I look at this as further justification that the quality of care we strive for at New York Hospital Queens continues to make us stand out as the premiere health care facility in
