Stamford CT – March 2009 – Redding resident Gavin McLeod, M.D. received Stamford Hospital’s first Physician Recognition Award at the Medical Staff Meeting on March 10.  Dr. McLeod, who specializes in infectious diseases, was nominated by fellow physicians and medical personnel for the honor.

The Physician Recognition Award is given to the physician who has shown an ongoing commitment to the hospital’s Planetree philosophy of patient-focused care and has been a role model to other staff members.  Additionally, the selected physician has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to living Stamford Hospital’s daily values:  Teamwork, Integrity, Compassion, Respect and Accountability.

Dr. Steve Lo, an oncologist at Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center, nominated Dr. McLeod because “he is one of the hospital’s best physicians yet is one of the least recognized.  Dr. McLeod is a totally dependable and compassionate team player, especially when dealing with very ill patients.  He totally immerses himself in a case and, even after confronting non-infectious disease issues, will still offer to help the patient and the attending physician.”

Dr. McLeod received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut and completed residencies at Cornell University - North Shore University Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  He also completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at New England Deaconess Hospital, now Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.  He is certified in Infectious Diseases and has a teaching appointment as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

In addition to being honored at the Medical Staff Meeting, Dr. McLeod received a complimentary gift certificate to the Capital Grille in Stamford.
