Stamford, CT – January 27, 2009 – Stamford Hospital has named Debra T. Hernandez, R.N., MHA, FACHE as its new Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services. In this position, she is responsible for managing the hospital’s patient care nursing units, medical services (including pulmonary, respiratory, sleep medicine and cystic fibrosis), pharmacy, emergency services, intensive care, and the EMS Institute.
Prior to joining Stamford Hospital, Hernandez served as Chief Nursing and Patient Care Services Officer at Durham Regional Hospital in Durham, N.C., which is part of the Duke University Health System. She also served as Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C. She began her career as a staff nurse at the Duke University Medical Center.
Under her leadership, Hernandez has helped increase patient satisfaction by 40 percent as well as created nurse residency training programs, partnerships with local nursing schools for training and recruitment, and a patient flow task force resulting in a house-wide remote monitoring program.
Hernandez has a master of health administration from Pfeiffer College in North Carolina and a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of North Carolina.
