Stamford, CT - November 21, 2008 - The Connecticut Center for Sleep Medicine at Stamford Hospital has again received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).  The accreditation, which demonstrates the highest standards of quality patient care, lasts through the year 2013.

AASM accreditation involves a detailed inspection of a center's facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training.  The AASM currently accredits more than 1,500 sleep centers and laboratories across the country.

"The Connecticut Center for Sleep Medicine is a significant resource to the local medical community, providing academic and scientific value as well as the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders," said Dr. Mary Susan Esther, AASM president.

The Connecticut Center for Sleep Medicine at Stamford Hospital has board-certified physicians, trained at Yale and Harvard Universities.  The physicians are experts in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, including snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome.

"AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep medicine," said Dr. Dominic Roca, director of Sleep Medicine at the center.  "We are proud to learn that AASM, a prestigious institution within our scientific community, has again qualified our standards and practices at a high level of excellence."
