Nyack, NY - November 10, 2008 - November is National Home Care Month, a time to recognize the importance of home and community-based care throughout Rockland County. Nyack Hospital Home Care joins health care providers across the state and nation this month to raise awareness about home care and honor the many home health professionals making a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities and medically-fragile patients who depend on care provided in the home.
"The core belief of Nyack Hospital Home Care is that, whenever practical, it is in the patient's best interest to receive care in the setting of his or her choice - most especially the home, where the patient is most comfortable and experiences the greatest possible sense of stability," states Catherine Pignatello, RN, MPH, Home Care Administrator. She continues, "Our goals are to promote patient recovery from illness, to foster the patient's independence in activities of daily living, and to increase the ability of patients with chronic conditions to manage and cope with their illness. We help patients remain safely in their homes and that is why patient/family education and support are an essential component of our home care services along with direct care and rehabilitation."
"This Home Care Month we aim to recognize the commitment and dedication of our highly trained and experienced nurses, aides, therapists and social worker who bring comfort and healing to individuals in greatest need," Pignatello added. "They are the very core of our service."
In 2007, Nyack Hospital Home Care assisted over 3,100 patients providing more than 60,000 patient visits.
