North Bergen, NJ - August 15, 2008 - Palisades Medical Center has officially opened a new Pain Management Department to treat patients with a variety of conditions, including acute pain as a result of injury or illness, back problems, arthritis, cancer pain, post-surgical pain, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, post amputation pain, shingles, and muscular conditions. Scott Gottlieb, M.D., has been named as the Departments' Clinical Director. Dr. Gottlieb is double board certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology.  He is well trained in all aspects of interventional pain management.  He completed a Fellowship in Pain Management at the University of California Los Angeles and residency in anesthesiology at NY-Presbyterian Hospital.

The new Pain Management Department at Palisades streamlines into one convenient location a wide range of services.  At the Pain Center, each patient receives a comprehensive evaluation along with diagnostic testing to determine the cause of his or her pain.  Treatment is individually based and may include medication management, acupuncture, physical therapy, biofeedback, and interventional treatments.

The Pain Management Department is located on the Palisades Medical Center campus at 7704 Marine Road in North Bergen, NJ.   For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please call (201) 520-4770.

According to the American Association of Pain Management (AAPM), approximately 50 million Americans suffer from chronic pain.  However, the AAPM suggests that chronic pain often goes untreated.  AAPM statistics also show that chronic pain affects not only individual patients, but friends, family and co-workers as well.  Pain patients are disabled in many areas of life, including work, mood, sleep, energy, concentration, and general level of enjoyment.  Many factors perpetuate chronic pain, such as obesity, smoking, alcohol and diabetes. These physiological factors can combine with mental factors, such as depression, fear, anxiety and frustration.
