Stamford, CT - August 14, 2008 - Stamford Hospital has received a $2 million grant from Odyssey Re Holdings Corp. (NYSE: ORH), a worldwide underwriter of property and casualty reinsurance, as well as specialty insurance.  The gift is OdysseyRe's first to Stamford Hospital, and is the hospital's largest one-time, single donation from a corporation.

The donation from the Stamford-based company will fund the acquisition of the da Vinci Surgical System and help enhance Stamford Hospital's program in minimally invasive surgery.  Stamford Hospital unveiled the da Vinci Surgical System last month.  With the system, the surgeon is at the controls of a sophisticated surgical robot to perform even the most complex and delicate surgical procedures with unmatched precision through small incisions and enhanced 3D optics.

The patient enjoys the benefits of a minimally invasive procedure including less pain, decreased blood loss and reduced need for blood transfusions, as well as a shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and faster return to normal daily activities.  Initially, Stamford Hospital plans to use da Vinci for various surgical procedures in urology, cardiology, and women's health.

"We are honored that OdysseyRe chose Stamford Hospital as the beneficiary for its annual donation. OdysseyRe's generosity ensures the da Vinci Surgical System will greatly benefit the region.  It also assists Stamford Hospital in its commitment to offering area residents the latest, most advanced minimally invasive techniques to heal more quickly and with less pain," said Dr. Timothy S. Hall, Chairman of Surgery at Stamford Hospital.
