White Plains, NY - August 28, 2008 -  The Journal of Neuroscience has approved the article "Experience-dependent plasticity from eye opening enables lasting, visual cortex-dependent, enhancement of  motion vision" for publication in an upcoming issue. The article was submitted by Glen Prusky, Ph.D., director of the laboratory for visual plasticity and behavior at the Burke Medical Research Institute in White Plains. Dr. Prusky conducts research in stroke recovery and brain and visual system plasticity (the ability of the brain to reorganize neural pathways based on experiences).  He also studies retinal degenerative disease and age-related macular degeneration.

Brooklyn, NY - August 27, 2008 - New York Methodist Hospital recently introduced its newly constructed Advanced Women's Imaging and Prenatal Testing Center at a ribbon cutting ceremony that was held b at the Center. Special guests, including Crystle Stewart, Miss USA 2008, and Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Borough President, came to celebrate the opening of this state-of-the-art facility that is designed to comprehensively address the diagnostic medical needs of women in the Brooklyn community.

North Bergen, NJ - August 15, 2008 - Palisades Medical Center has officially opened a new Continence Center to treat women who are experiencing problems with their urinary tracts and/or pelvic floors.

 

The Continence Center at Palisades is led by Sam Hessami, MD, FACOG, Associate Clinical Professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.  Dr. Hessami is a renowned urogynecologist who specializes in treating disorders in the bladder, rectum, uterus, vagina, as well as the muscles, constructive tissue and nerves that support these organs.

North Bergen, NJ - August 15, 2008 - The New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) recently presented its prestigious lifetime achievement award to Ruben D. Fernandez, MA, RN, Vice President of Patient Care Services at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, NJ, by inducting him into its Roll of Honor. Fernandez was officially inducted during the NJSNA's Annual Convention in Atlantic City.  The Roll of Honor is the highest award given by a state nurses association.  Past Roll of Honor inductees include Clara Barton, Clara Louise Mass, Walt Whitman, Dorothea Lynde Dix, and Faye Abdellah.

Stamford, CT - August 14, 2008 - Stamford Hospital has received a $2 million grant from Odyssey Re Holdings Corp. (NYSE: ORH), a worldwide underwriter of property and casualty reinsurance, as well as specialty insurance.  The gift is OdysseyRe's first to Stamford Hospital, and is the hospital's largest one-time, single donation from a corporation.
