Nyack, NY - July 29, 2008 - Nyack Hospital held a ribbon cutting ceremony in celebration of the redesign and renovation of its inpatient oncology unit. This unit underwent extensive renovations including the construction of a 7-station inpatient infusion station featuring comfortable furnishings, individual television sets and an expansive view of the scenic Hudson River. All patient areas were renovated with new flooring, wall covering and lighting. The nursing station was redesigned, as well as staff areas, corridors and the patient lounge.
"The updated environment and expansion of the unit has been beneficial for the staff as well as for patients who require hospitalization for their oncology treatment," states Arlene Heitzman, RN, MA, OCN, Nurse Manager on the unit.
This unit complements the advanced diagnostic and treatment services already provided at Nyack Hospital, including digital mammography, PET/CT technology, TomoTherapy®, IMRT and other interventional oncology treatments. For those patients who are currently undergoing treatment for cancer, Nyack Hospital's Appearance Center and support groups are available to provide emotional support and assistance during this time.
