Mineola, NY - June 13, 2008 - Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce the election of three local business and community leaders to its Board of Directors. Salvatore Ferro, President and CEO of Alure Home Improvements, Inc.; Daniel L. Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Madison National Bank; and Shepard T. Poole, Senior Vice President of The Hallen Construction Co., Inc., join a devoted corps of community leaders who play an instrumental role in the ongoing growth and development of the Hospital's high quality, comprehensive healthcare services.

 

Salvatore Ferro

 

Salvatore Ferro, President and CEO of Alure Home Improvements, Inc., is one of the most highly respected leaders in the home improvement industry, and Alure Home Improvements is one of the most successful full-service home remodeling companies in the country. Mr. Ferro and Alure Home Improvements' remarkable reputation enabled them to participate in the hit ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," through which they recently completed their seventh home makeover in New York.

 

 

Mr. Ferro was named an "Industry Legend" by the Home Improvement Management Summit and one of the "Top 50 Most Influential People on Long Island" by the Long Island Press and Alure Home Improvements has received numerous awards and was named one of "Long Island's Hottest 25 Companies" by Long Island Business News.

 

Mr. Ferro is active in many professional organizations, including the National Association of the Remodeling Industry; the National Kitchen and Bath Association; the Long Island Builders Institute; and Advancement for Commerce, Industry, and Technology. Also active in community service, Mr. Ferro serves on the Boards of the Huntington Townwide Fund, the Find a Cure Today breast cancer advocacy organization, and the Interfaith Nutrition Network.

 

Mr. Ferro is an alumnus of SUNY Farmingdale and was inducted into the University's Business Hall of Fame in 2007. He currently resides in Huntington with his wife Lori and their three children.

 

Daniel L. Murphy

 

Daniel L. Murphy currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Madison National Bank, a new commercial banking enterprise. Prior to his work with the start-up bank, Mr. Murphy served on the executive management team of Roslyn Savings Bank as Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Banking Officer, where he was responsible for the bank's retail operations, including consumer lending, corporate insurance, alternative investments and life insurance, as well as administration of the bank's branches. 

           

Mr. Murphy holds a B.A. in business from Molloy College, where he graduated with honors, and earned his M.B.A. from the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University. He is a graduate of America's Community Bankers National School of Banking at Fairfield University and the American Banker's Association National Graduate School of Compliance Management.

           

An ardent supporter of charitable endeavors and public service, Mr. Murphy serves as the Chairman of Board of Trustees at Molloy College and is the immediate past-president of the Queens Museum of Art. He is a trustee of Boy Scouts of America - Theodore Roosevelt Chapter and serves as a trustee of The Arthritis Foundation and as Treasurer for the SUNY Old Westbury Foundation.

 

Mr. Murphy resides in Huntington Hills with his daughter.

 

Shepard T. Poole

 

Shepard T. Poole is Senior Vice President of The Hallen Construction Co., Inc., a Long-Island-based underground utility contractor, where he is responsible for labor relations, compliance, facilities and equipment, as well as quality control, environmental, health and safety issues. 

 

Active in professional organizations, Mr. Poole is a board member and the vice president of the Distribution Contractors Association, a group of utility contractors and suppliers, and is a member of the Capitol Hill Club and the Society of Gas Lighters.

 

In the community, Mr. Poole has served as a board member of the Marty Lyons Foundation since 1996, and has served on committees for the Little Flower Children's Services gala and the Commerce Bank Championship. He is also an active alumnus of the Energeia Partnership - The Academy for Regional Stewardship at Molloy College, and volunteers his time and energy to the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club and the Garden City Athletic Association.

 

Hallen Construction has been involved with major regional projects including the Neptune Project, which is aimed at bringing additional electricity to Long Island from New Jersey; and the Iroquois Pipeline, a 411-mile interstate natural gas pipeline system.

 

Mr. Poole earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Hobart College and graduated from the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program.  He currently resides in Garden City with his wife Anne and their three children.
