Cooperstown, NY - March 21, 2008 - Marianne Stalteri, certified nurse-midwife and OB/GYN nurse practitioner, and currently Bassett Healthcare's cervical cancer screening coordinator, recently received a two-year term appointment to the state's Breast and Cervical Cancer Detection and Education Advisory Council (BCAC).
The 21-member BCAC council will work closely with the state's Cancer Service Program (CSP) to review data on the incidence of cervical cancer and work to raise public awareness on the causes, personal risk factors, prevention and importance of early detection of cervical cancer. The council also anticipates working with the CSP on the development of new strategies to combat cervical cancer and the creation of a statewide comprehensive cervical cancer prevention plan.
"It's a great opportunity for me to be a part of the process on a statewide level in helping determine the best ways to fight against cervical cancer," said Stalteri. "I am looking forward to bringing my clinical experiences and expertise from my work at Bassett in order to make a direct impact on reducing cervical cancer in the region."
Stalteri received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College and her degree in nurse-midwifery from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing.
Stalteri joined Bassett Healthcare in 2006. She lives in Herkimer, N.Y. with her husband Daniel and daughters Kahley and Emily.
