Northern Westchester Hospital is proud to be one of the first five hospitals in the country to receive the prestigious recognition of Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Care Hospital with Distinction. NWH is also the first hospital in New York State to receive this designation, which is a strong endorsement of the expertise and humanity of the entire staff. In 2011, NWH received two Spirit of Planetree Awards. They are: Healing Environment: Architecture and Interior Design of the Mary and David Boies Emergency Department and Integrative Therapies/Paths to Well-Being for the Music Therapy Program.
NWH is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and an affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill Cornell Medical College, which gives patients even broader access to a wide range of expertise, research, and clinical trials while expanding the range of care available on-site for complex clinical problems.
NWH's excellent medical and surgical capabilities include the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center, including the region’s only Gamma Knife Center; Orthopedic and Spine Institute (OSI); Surgical Weight Loss Program; The Institute for Neurosciences-Center for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery; a Level III Nursery; The Center for Sleep Medicine; and Ambulatory Care Services at Chappaqua Crossing which offers outpatient rehabilitation, wound care and a hyperbaric chamber. Additionally the hospital offers full-time Adult, Pediatric and Surgical Hospitalists, ICU Intensivists, Neonatologists and Perinatologists.
The Breast Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital is comprised of a specialized team of professionals who are dedicated to diagnosing, treating, and managing breast cancer, including experts in oncological breast surgery, reconstructive plastic surgeons, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and nursing. Together with other specially-trained professionals, this team approach to treating breast cancer provides patients with the type of services needed to confront the disease, as well as physical, emotional and social side effects.
The Women's Imaging Center is an acclaimed Breast Imaging Center of Excellence recognized by The American College of Radiology. NWH is the only hospital in Westchester County with this designation.
The hospital is also a NYS-designated Stroke Center. Northern Westchester Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes Northern Westchester Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines. To receive the award, Northern Westchester Hospital achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care.
